Gym Etiquette & Training Guidelines
To keep training safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms around the world follow similar standards. Please review and follow these guidelines:
Safety & Training
Start slow if you are new. Focus on learning technique before using speed or strength.
Tap early and tap often. Tapping is part of learning and is always respected.
Listen to your coaches. They are here to keep you safe and progressing.
Wrap your fingers or joints if you feel pain or instability.
Let your training partners know if you have an injury before class.
Consult your physician before starting if you have medical concerns or prior injuries.
Hygiene & Cleanliness
Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed.
Wear clean gear to every class (gi, rash guard, belt).
Practice good personal hygiene.
Remove shoes before stepping on the mats.
Cover any cuts or open wounds before training.
Respect & Culture
Respect your training partners, regardless of size, age, belt, or experience.
Egos stay off the mat.
Ask questions. Learning is encouraged.
Help others when appropriate, especially newer students.
Leave the mat better than you found it.
